Energy station with Pump Water Storage and a small-scale Knowledge Center to offer an autonomous urban district.
Site characteristics
The project is about a new power station that will use the natural resources of its site, which lies in the Leith Docks, to produce electricity and turn the surrounding area into being autonomous. The electricity will be distributed to cover the needs of its surroundings and the power station uses combined water storage combined with other resources in order to store the power.
The main project's aim is to offer social, environmental and economic sustainability to the area.
Response to the site and its surroundings:
/// Response to the need for power production and power distribution in a local and wider location.
/// Response to the potential needs of the new developments of the surrounding area, the Leith Docks.
/// Exploitation of natural resources (Wind_Waves_Tide_Sun) for electricity generation.
/// Connection of the site with the city center by the new tram line.
///Design and Infrastructure potential. Strong socio-cultural character of the area.
///Create autonomous units that create infrastructure networks along the seashore.

The storage infrastructure.
The power station and the small-scale knowledge center. Social sustainability.
The power station is open to the public in order to educate and raise the awareness about sustainability. Visitors can see the function of the power station (the route of the water is obvious), to visit the tanks, attend lectures and visit the small museum with relevant exhibits that lie within the station. There is also the opportunity of travelling by boat to visit the infrastructure that uses the natural resources (wind turbines and pelamis) to get familiar with them. The visitor center will slightly improve the character of the area, as till now the buildings are mainly for offices and trade, and offer a more cultural-educational character to it.
