A recalibrated natural corridor within the urban fabric.
The current state of the site
The purpose of this project is the recalibration and rehabilitation of a natural glen within the urban fabric of the city of Thessaloniki. The glen neighbors with the Seich Shou Forest and it can become a corridor for biodiversity and natural vegetation to be introduced to the urban environment. A sudden tenemental spread with no specific plan occured and led to the dissolution of the coherence of the urban fabric, so the intervention has to deal with this and the negative consequences to the site as well. The intervention is also concerned about the problems of the residents, the uses of the buildings, the natural discontinuity, the heat capacity, the shading, the sources of noise pollution and the circulation means of the visitors.
The basic idea is to conserve and to enhance the trace of the water route. For this reason a new infrastructure that collects the rainwater was constructed following the geography of the glen's terrain. Because of the difference in the terrain's levels, the water would flow along the construction continuously, creating a new stream within the natural environment. When the weather is sunny, the construction can be used like a long seat or path.
